Dermatology

The Dermatology Service at Grupo San Juan has the necessary diagnostic and therapeutic means to provide an appropriate approach to skin, nail, and hair diseases. Additionally, from this specialty, we also address venereal or sexually transmitted diseases.

What Dermatology Services Do We Offer?

Skin Biopsy

A skin biopsy involves collecting a small skin sample for examination, thus helping to diagnose or rule out a possible disease. This test is performed, for example, when there is suspicion of skin cancer, to assess conditions like psoriasis or eczema, or to detect bacterial infections.

Cryotherapy

This is a minimally invasive procedure in which intense cold is used to freeze and remove diseased tissue. Cryotherapy is effective for treating skin lesions such as tumors, precancerous moles, or cutaneous papillomas, or for removing unsightly nodules or freckles.

Mycological and Bacterial Culture

A culture is a laboratory analysis that helps us detect and identify microorganisms that can cause infections or diseases in the nails, skin, or hair. For this, we need to take small samples of the nail or skin, which are sent to the laboratory to determine if there are fungi, viruses, or bacteria.

Oncological Dermatology

In addition to early diagnosis of skin cancer, our Dermatology service can follow up with patients, studying each case to design personalized treatment. The most important of these treatments is dermatological surgery, although it can be associated with other treatments.

Pediatric Dermatology

The skin of babies and children is very sensitive, so we must be especially careful with it to prevent future diseases. The dermatologist is the right professional to correctly treat any skin disease or discomfort that children may have, such as atopic dermatitis, acne, angiomas, or contagious molluscum.

Early Diagnosis of Skin Cancer

The incidence of skin cancer has increased in Spain in recent years, with early diagnosis being essential in its treatment. Our detection service allows for quick 10-minute appointments so that our dermatologist can exclusively examine moles, warts, and lesions susceptible to malignancy, preventing or treating the disease in time.

Electrocautery

Electrocautery involves scraping the skin using an electrocautery device to remove cells that can be benign or malignant. This technique can also be used to take samples for biopsy.

Infectious Skin Diseases

When our immune system is weakened or when there is a wound or cut in the skin, bacteria or fungi can cause infections. Common ones include warts, herpes, athlete’s foot, or scabies. In these cases, treatment will depend on the type of infection and its severity.

Inflammatory Skin Diseases

When experiencing symptoms like itching, flaking, burning, or redness of the skin, it is important to consult a dermatologist, as these may indicate inflammatory conditions like psoriasis or urticaria. In these cases, it is crucial to provide treatment and establish follow-up since these conditions often occur in flare-ups.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases

There are multiple sexually transmitted diseases that affect the skin, such as chlamydia, genital herpes, gonorrhea, or HIV. Normally, these diseases cause itching, redness, irritation, and even pain, and while not all of them are curable, appropriate treatment can alleviate their symptoms to a great extent.

Simple Excision

Excision is a surgical procedure carried out to remove moles, cysts, lesions, or bumps on the skin. It is a common treatment, for instance, to eliminate skin cancer as it allows the removal of the tumor and surrounding healthy tissue to prevent its growth.

Scalp Examination

A scalp examination is an analysis of both our hair and our scalp to determine the characteristics of our hair. This can help us detect patterns of hair loss, as well as the amount of grease or dandruff in the patient, enabling us to provide a personalized diagnosis and treatment.

Pigmented Lesions

These are brown spots on the skin caused by an increase in melanin and often develop in childhood. Since pigmented lesions can be benign or malignant, it is essential to have a dermatologist’s diagnosis before removing them.
